Cranleigh Firsts Joint Manager Sam Carpenter’s regular update:
When I took on the joint manager role with Paul Jones back in December, the aim was clear: stay up and build for next season. At the time, we were sitting third from bottom in the table. Fast forward four months, and we’ve won seven of our last ten games, climbed to 9th place with a couple of games in hand, and reached the semi-final of the league cup. We’re also second in the league’s form table, a testament to the hard work and commitment from the squad.

The key to this turnaround has been the competition within the squad. The players are all fighting for their place in the team and, more importantly, for the shirt and the club. Bringing in my own targets like George Barrett, Josh Kipping, Jonny Abaya, RJ, and Paolo Luke has strengthened the side and made it more competitive. I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed working with some of the talented lads already here, including club skipper Ciaran Lynch and one of the favourites for players’ player, Ben Beazley, both of whom have been massive for us this season.
Then there’s the likes of Makenzie Mortimer, an extremely promising 17-year-old who is making his mark on the game, and Sam Jones who has been working hard to get back to match fitness. Emin Can Acar has been leading the line like a true striker, and Will Smith, Joel Harris and Ryan Taiani have created a solid backbone to take us forwards. George Mead, our keeper, has really come into form, keeping three clean sheets so far this season… and he’s sure more will come.
More recently, I was delighted to announce the signing of two long-term targets, Adam Bicknell and Sam Taylor. I’ve known both of them for years, and they’ll give us even more strength in both defensive and attacking areas.
Our plan remains consistent with where we started, but now we have the ambition to reach the final of the league cup and challenge for a trophy, while also aiming to finish as high in the league as possible. Last weekend’s convincing win over Addlestone in the quarter-final was a great advert for the football we’re playing, even better with over 40 fans there to witness it. I’d urge those who attended, and any new Cranleigh fans, to keep coming to support the lads from now until the end of the season. Every bit of support makes a difference.
On behalf of Paul and I, thank you for the support!
Up the Cranes! 🏗️
