First game of the season is a friendly with Broadbridge Heath(BBH)
After 2 games against them last season with only a goal difference in each game we were expecting a tough first game. Cranleigh however were magnificent from the start with great passing and movement opening up BBH almost at will. A cross from the left saw returning player Deon Mubaiwa open the scoring turning in at the far post 1-0. Leo Lord continued his rampaging form of the end of last season bursting through for 2-0. After 15 minutes BBH had barely been in the Cranleigh half.
Leo added his 2nd and Cranleighs 3rd after 25 minutes. Despite changing players and positions in the Cranleigh defence and trying new formations BBH didn’t register a shot of note as the half finished 3-0
The second half started in much the same way with Cranleigh dominating. Charlie Gibson added a 4th with a fine strike from outside the area. Leo Lord bullied the BBH defence into a mistake to score his 3rd, Cranleighs 5 th. Deons pace out wide was causing problems and he duly added a 6th. Charlie Gibson went on a great run for the 7th. A defensive mix up while trying to retain possession in our own area led to a BBH goal 7-1. Ethan Payne beat 2 players before unleashing a fierce shot that the keeper couldn’t handle for 8-1. Our 9th goal was perhaps the best as debutant Eduardo Ragusa ( such a cool name ) never gave up on a lost ball and from the touchline with no room dribbled past 2 players to set up Leo for his 4th. Eddie was making his debut and had a superb game with pinpoint passing between defenders . Towards the end of the game Leo added his 5th for a 10-1 win.
A fantastic first game against a team who we twice had close games with last season.
The power and pace of the Cranleigh team coupled with amazing passing and movement was too much for BBH.
