Playing their first game for many weeks both teams took time to get going, especially on a very wet pitch, which no doubt the groundsman had wished he had not decided playable. Both teams worked very hard in a closely fought first half, trying to play good passing football, which has been the high standard set by all teams this season.
Game was end to end with possession changing numerous times due to the heavy pitch and high pressing by all. Chances came and went for both teams. Poor finishing, bad luck and good keeping kept it goalless. Cranleigh were generally on top and took a well-deserve lead late in the first. Hayden Skerry with a fine finish after forcing a defensive error. Same again asked the coaches at half time, with a bit more care of the ball and not to get involved in the unsavoury side of the game.
Request followed and Cranleigh took control, with the majority of the second half played in the Lingfield half.
Substitute Finn Graham scored an excellent solo goal immediately after the break, before Oscar brown also coming off the bench at half time scored to make it 3-0. Numerous chances game and went, whilst Lingfield were getting more frustrated. Consistent infringements by Linfgfield quickly turned into a few yellow cards, then finally a red card. Jonah hardwood finished off another good move to finish the scoring. 4 goals 3 points clean sheet. Happy days. Off for a well-deserved hot shower and hot food as provided by all hosting teams.
Sadly cold shower, hardly any food. homeward bound cold hungry but still smiling. Great effort as always by all.
Scorers – Hayden Skerry, Finn Graham, Oscar Brown, Jonah Harewood
