10.30 kick off allowed all to have a welcome lie in!! Captain for the day was James.
First Half
Big match against a worthy team who we played only a few weeks ago loosing 5:3. Mayford Tigers came out fighting and they spent the first 10 minutes pushing hard into our half. This inevitably led to a goal with a cracking shot from just inside our half.
Within a minute we conceded a free kick 15 yards out on the left of the goal and another cracking shot from Mayford saw the ball finish in the top right of the net. Impossible for David to get close to.
There was further pressure from Mayford as they saw an opportunity to push harder and deeper into our half resulting in another goal 20 minutes from the start. 3:0 down from 3 superb shots on goal and it was looking difficult for the boys.
However, heads remained up and we saw some strong defence with Keir, James and Harry who were doing an excellent job at the back. The final flourishes of the first half saw a change in pace from Cranleigh and a good attack on goal in the last minute.
Second Half
The second half took a different path and the boys drove hard into Mayfords side. The teams were evenly matched and a superb run by Harry, a cross to Oscar and onto Adib who narrowly missed scoring.
There was a lot of pressure from both teams as the ball was chased and driven down. Thomas had a great game driving hard for every ball and keeping on top of the opponents.
We saw a great partnership at the front with Oscar and Jack and some cracking attacks on goal. One of which came from a superb pass from inside our half and down the pitch which was quickly picked up resulting in a great attempt on goal.
With less than 10 minutes to go Jack was unfortunate to get a boot into the head. First aid and sympathy beautifully administered by Darren as we saw a huge lump appear….followed by the words ‘can I play on’!!!
The team should be really proud about the way they played. Despite going 3:0 down in the first half spirits remained high and they pushed hard and fought hard and were unfortunate not to get a goal back.
Great match against a strong team. Well done all.
