South Surrey Tournament 2019
Cranleigh u14 Champions
For South Surrey Tournament all teams are in a group with no semi final or final just a round robin group with the team finishing top the Champions and second place are runners up .
Will just give a brief match report of our 3 main games.
Cranleigh 0 v 0 Bookham
We started against a strong Bookham team although to be honest we didn’t get started at all.
Bookham were by far the better team for the first 5 minutes as we seemed to be asleep.
Some great defending and cover tackles by Harry Dancaster were keeping us in the game.
Gradually we gained some possession and finally started to play.
Sullivan Howick came close after great work by Leo Lord.
Isaac Denton -Miller playing in goal produced a series of great saves as Bookham pressed forward.
Cranleigh did have further chances through Leo and Sullivan almost won it at the end as he drove a good effort across the Bookham goal.
With the match ending 0-0 the team were very disappointed in their performance.
It was however pointed out that not losing your first game is the important thing and we could and would improve.
Cranleigh 3 v1 Chiddingfold
For the Chiddingfold game it was decided to push Dylan Bishop into midfield from fullback as it was felt we needed more energy in the middle and Alastair Hill into defence.
We started well and the game was very even early on with half chances to both teams.
Disaster struck as the Chiddingfold forward broke free to put us 1-0 down.
At this point with results in other games we had no chance of winning the group.
This Cranleigh side never gives up and a great goal by Dylan Bishop driving the ball into the bottom corner brought us level,
Jack Westerman now had the Chiddingfold forward under control allowing Harry Dancaster to push forward from defence.
Sullivan Howick scored our second with a powerful shot from ouside the area .
Leo Lord headed in from a corner although not sure the final touch was his 3-1
A great comeback by the team with Dylan scoring a game turning goal.
Cranleigh 3 v 0 Dorking
With the final round of games the top spot was between us and Bookham .
Cranleigh were top with level goal difference but having scored 1 more goal.
With goal difference likely to be a deciding factor Cranleigh went at Dorking .
Within the first 3 minutes Cranleigh had hit the goal frame twice and had 1 chance cleared off the line.
On the next pitch Bookham were 2-1 up . We needed goals.
Que Sullivan Howick scoring our first.
Harry Dancaster drove forward with ball and unleashed an amazing top corner strike for 2-0 and his first Cranleigh goal.
With Archie Burge driving in great crosses from the left and Ethan Payne and Dylan Bishop bossing the middle our third goal soon came from Leo.
Further chances by Dylan and Ethan almost gave us our 4th.
The only scare in the game came as a back pass to our keeper rolled under his foot as he looked to see who was free and agonisingly very slowly rolled past the post.
A 3-0 win to Cranleigh and the Bookham match was still in progress with them 2-1 up.
As we went across to watch the last moments Bookham scored making it 3-1 .
Nervous moments before the ref blew for fulltime.
Cranleigh Champions by virtue of 1 goal
A great performance despite a slow start .
By the final game the football Cranleigh were playing was amazing as commented by many neutral spectators.
