First game of the New Year saw the league Champions of 2 years ago visiting SnoxallAfter winning their last game 8-0 Bookham were in a confident mood. It was decided to swap Alastair Hill from centre forward to centre half and Jack Westerman from centre half to centre forward. The first chance fell to Cranleigh with a great through ball by Sullivan Howick finished off by Jack Westerman for 1-0. Jack Westerman had another 2 chances to score in a very good start by Cranleigh. Bookham were having success down our left and their first goal came from that area for 1-1. A great save by Isaac Denton – Miller kept the score at 1-1. Sullivan and Jack Westerman were combining well up front and it was a deft flick with the outside of Sullivans boot putting Jack through again to score 2-1.Straight back came Bookham and a run from the right saw Charlie OBrien bringing down the Bookham winger for a penalty2-2. Although not disputing the fact it was a foul it was clearly outside the box another poor decision against us . The Jack and Sully show was in full swing up front and it was Jack setting up Sully this time for 3-2. Yet again back came Bookham and yet again it cam from our left with a cross turned home for 3-3.A very action packed first half finishing 3-3 with Cranleigh in front 3 times. With the flow of Bookham attacks from our left Dylan Bishop and Jack Rogers were brought on . The commencement of the second half brought a number of Cranleigh chancesEthan Payne and Alastair Hill both narrowly shooting over . From a corner, Harry Dancaster hit the post. An amazing effort from Pat from outside the area bounced off the top of the bar .At this point Cranleigh were bossing the game and looked the most likely winners. With 15 minutes to go Bookham brought on 4 fresh subs and the game changed .Cranleigh started to lose control in the midfield against the new players .A Bookham corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble and Bookham poking it home for 3-4.Another fantastic save from our keeper and a superb goal line stop by Dylan Bishop kept us in the game. The final goal came in the last minute with the ball falling to a Bookham player on the edge of our box who drove it home for 3-5. A 3-5 loss but a great performance and if a couple of early 2nd half chances had gone in we would of won. Turning point in the game was definitely the Bookham subs when we had no fresh players to stiffen a tiring midfield. Again praise for our team from the opposition manager admitting a draw would of been more than fair.ScorersJack Westerman -2Sullivan Howick – 1Men of the matchAlastair Hill – First game at Centre half a towering performanceHarry Dancaster – Absolutely everywhere, outstanding
