..…a bitterly cold and frosty morning with a 9.30am kick off at Loxwood. Getting going was the key as the team tried to warm up and keep warm – Captain for the day was David.
First Half
Within a minute we were awarded a corner which was taken by Adib and scored by Harvey. Great start for Cranleigh. The next 10 minutes saw some exciting end to end play with a number of shots on goal from both teams. The team played so well and there was a real positive spirit, special mention to Adib and Thomas for their rock solid play. Half way through the first half there was a blistering shot from Loxwood out of the sun making it very difficult to see the ball, superbly saved by David.
In the last 5 minutes there was another flurry of shots on goal from Cranleigh and then a final corner from Loxwood which saw the ball hit the side of the net.
Second Half
Loxwood came out fighting and after 7 minutes we saw a superb kick from their goalkeeper that went deep into our half and was run down by Loxwood who scored a well-deserved goal.
The second half seemed to be more even with great play on both sides. Half way through the second half Cranleigh was unfortunate to concede a penalty which flew over the bar!! Loxwood pushed hard into our area and they certainly seemed to be stepping up the pace. 20 minutes in, we managed to gain some traction back into the Loxwood half and we saw two great shots on goal from Oscar who was unlucky not to score.
The final 10 minutes was even play with good chances on both sides. The team pulled out all the stops to hold on to the score finishing 1:1.
A great game of football which was nail biting throughout and played with a real team spirit.
Well done Cranleigh
