Away to Albury in the cup
For the first time this season Cranleigh started slowly . Perhaps it was a hangover from the Ewhurst game but the team seemed to think they only had to turn up to win. Albury started better and were causing a few problems early on but luckily the defence were organised and strong . With too many Cranleigh players seeming to forget to play as a team and not for themselves we were making hard work of the game .
After 15 minutes Toby Davis drove the ball past the keeper and into the corner for a great first goal. To be honest we didn’t really deserve to be in front but we were starting to come into the game a bit more with Ethan Payne and Isaac Holt working hard in the midfield .
Toby scored a second goal 5 minutes later beating a defender with good footwork and skill .
Even at 2-0 we didn’t look comfortable and it took a great save by Alastair Hill turning the ball around the post to keep our advantage at 2- 0 . We were starting to get our passing game going and Deon Mubawia broke free to score our 3 rd. The first half finished 3-0 which flattered us a bit .
After a few half time words reminding the players how well we can play when we play as a team we started the second half much stronger. After a great passing move Toby Davis just missed connecting with a diving header , although it did appear as though he actually just fell over and was claiming a diving header. Unbelievably Toby the smallest player on the pitch did score our 4 th and his hat trick with a header inside the box . A feat he repeated 5 minutes later for his 4 th and the teams 5 th goal.
Another great header from Toby saw him set up Deon to poke the ball in but unfortunatley it was ruled offside . With our defence marshalled very well by Buster Boomer who was having his best game of the season we were pushing our fullbacks further forward causing Albury lots of problems out wide.
It was only a matter of time before we scored a 6 th with Deon finishing a great move . Deon broke free later in the game and with only the keeper to beat from 4 yards managed to actually shoot straight at the keeper a great chance for another hat trick gone he will be having nightmares over that miss.
6-0 at the final whistle a much improved second half performance from the team although finishing might be on the agenda at training Thursday.
