Cranleigh U14s put in a spirited performance but came up short against Wisborough Green U15s, losing 3-1 in a hard-fought encounter.

The match began with both sides battling for control, but it was the hosts who took the lead through a controversial penalty decision. Wisborough Green then doubled their advantage after Cranleigh failed to clear a goal-line scramble, leaving the Cobras with an uphill battle.

Wisborough Green’s third goal, a well-struck effort, might have signalled the end for most teams, but Cranleigh showed remarkable resilience. Refusing to cave in, the Cobras fought back with a well-worked team goal, proving their determination and fighting spirit.

Despite creating plenty of chances throughout the match, Cranleigh’s inability to convert opportunities into goals ultimately cost them the game. By the final whistle, the Cobras could reflect on a performance where their effort and creativity deserved more than the scoreline suggested.

There was a bright spot in the form of Charlie’s debut, with the newcomer slotting into the team seamlessly and playing as though he had been part of the squad all season.

A special moment came after the match when a parent from the opposition team complimented Cranleigh’s never-give-up attitude, epitomising the very best of grassroots football.

While the result didn’t go their way, the Cobras can hold their heads high knowing they left everything on the pitch and demonstrated the character that defines this team.
