From the Dugout: Nick Bamford, Manager of Cranleigh FC Women’s Team, reflects on the season so far as we reach the halfway point, and with a break before games resume in the New Year.

Our primary goal as a team is to achieve constant improvement, both technically and tactically, as we compete in Surrey Division 1 South of the South East Counties Women’s Football League. By reviewing match statistics and comparing them to previous seasons, we can measure our progress.

As we wrap up the first half of the 2024/25 season, the numbers tell a compelling story:

2024/25 season so far:

  • Played: 9
  • Won: 2
  • Drawn: 2
  • Lost: 5
  • Points secured: 8
  • Goals scored: 24 (average 2.67 per game)
  • Goals conceded: 26 (average 2.89 per game)

These figures represent a significant improvement compared to the 2023/24 season:

2023/24 season:

  • First half: Played 8, goals scored 5, goals conceded 74 (average 9.25 per game), points secured: 0
  • Second half: Played 8, won 1, goals conceded 29 (average 3.62 per game), points secured: 3
  • Overall: Played 16, total points secured: 3

The shift began in the second half of last season and has accelerated this season. Our goal-scoring average has improved dramatically, and our defensive record has tightened significantly.

What’s driving this transformation?

While practice and tactical adjustments are essential, the foundation of our improvement lies in an unshakable team spirit. Some players are new to competitive football, while others are returning after a break. Yet, this group has bonded into a team that supports one another on and off the pitch.

This shared commitment is paired with an infectious sense of fun, which makes every game and training session enjoyable.

We’re proud of the progress we’ve made and excited for what’s to come. Bring on 2025 – we’re ready for you!

Come on you Cranes!
