A waterlogged pitch at Milford led to Cranleigh Women’s team hosting Milford & Witley at Glebelands, 24th November, where the side delivered a tremendous defensive performance in challenging conditions.
Fixtures & Results
With 40mph gusts making play difficult, both teams focused on keeping the ball on the ground, showcasing determined football. The first-half saw the teams evenly matched, going into the break at 0-0.
Facing the wind in the second half, Cranleigh defended valiantly, with every player contributing to an incredible rearguard effort. As the clock ticked down, it seemed the blue and whites would secure a hard-earned point. However, in the dying seconds, a wind-assisted cross-shot looped over goalkeeper Laura and into the net, handing Milford & Witley a 1-0 victory.
League table
To come so close and leave empty-handed was a bitter pill to swallow, but this team’s resilience and determination shine through every week. They improve with every match and never let their heads drop, no matter the result. The team now sit in 5th place in the league.
