Surrey Division 1 South – 4th February 2025

Cranleigh FC Women faced a significant challenge against league leaders Ash United, made even more difficult by a late setback as their goalkeeper was ruled out due to illness just ten minutes before kick-off.

Despite the disruption, Cranleigh started well, demonstrating strong defensive organisation and composure on the ball. Emily Hill stepped up to take on goalkeeping duties, adapting impressively in an unfamiliar role. For the opening 30 minutes, Cranleigh proved difficult to break down, frustrating Ash and creating several attacking opportunities of their own.

However, the hosts capitalised on their chances as the half progressed. Two well-taken strikes and an unfortunate deflection gave Ash a 3-0 lead at the interval.

The second half saw Cranleigh further tested, with injuries forcing a reshuffle and leaving the squad stretched with just one substitute available. Despite these challenges, they continued to compete, playing positive, attacking football and creating promising openings.

Ash United’s clinical finishing proved the difference, as they extended their lead with five second-half goals. While the final scoreline was decisive, it did not reflect the effort, resilience, and tactical discipline shown by Cranleigh throughout the match.

A special thanks to Ash United for ensuring the match could go ahead, with a late pitch inspection at 11:30 confirming playability despite concerns over the conditions.

Cranleigh now turn their attention to their next fixture—a crucial away match against second-placed Oxted & District Ladies—as they look to build on their continued improvement.

Final Score: Ash United 8–0 Cranleigh FC Women
