Cranleigh FC U14s Cobras kicked off their season in the SSYFL U15s Feeder Division, 7th September, stepping up to play in a higher age group due to a shortage of U14 teams. It was a day of firsts for the young Cobras—first time in this league, first time using a size 5 ball, and their first full 80-minute match.

Despite the challenges, the team showcased the “Cranleigh way,” focusing on passing and playing out from the back, and delivered one of their finest performances. Goals from Ollie Kite, Kevin, and a brace from debutant Basty secured a 4-2 victory against a determined Wisborough Green side.

Captain Sam, filling in as goalkeeper with Seb sidelined by injury, also earned praise for his efforts. With debuts for Alex, Dylan, and Basty, the Cobras look well-prepared for the season ahead.

A crowd of 50 spectators enjoyed an exciting contest on what was hailed by the opposition as the “flattest pitch” they’ve played on, a testament to the excellent work by the Parish Council grounds staff.

Final score: Cranleigh Cobras 4-2 Wisborough Green.

Coaches: Nick Bamford, Alex Matthews
